A New Discovery

As I was getting this blog up and running, I knew that I wanted to have a tribute page for“More-with-Less.” I did a quick image search to find some photos of Doris Janzen Longacre, the author of Living More with Less and compiler of the best-selling cookbook More-with-Less.What I discovered was a wonderful site create by Mennonite Publishing Network and Herald Press in honor of the thirtieth anniversary of Living More with Less, a volume I was honored to contribute to.
Longacre’s been on my mind a lot lately — not only is she a prominent figure in my dissertation, she died of cancer at age thirty-nine which is the same age as me and my contemporaries. What a bittersweet age to die.

And what an incredible legacy of ideas, reality checks, “holy frustration,” and hope she has left to us. Today is a good day to have found Longacre’s poetry and other writing.

“Life is too short to care whether purses match shoes or towels match bathrooms.”
Words for me to live by today. Thanks, Doris.
